Bored by snaps? Keen to enliven your image making using new techniques? This workshop offers a dynamic, artistic approach that could help. You'll learn about different manual controls, composition methods and menu functions - including multiple exposure, motion blur, and filling the frame in an abstract manner. All of these have potential to push your photography in a new direction. As photographers, we are often told only technically perfect images matter. But this isn't true. And creative breakthroughs also arise from being imperfect, loose and experimental. This workshop takes place on the Plymouth foreshore around Royal William Yard. If you are visually inspired by patterns, textures, colours - barnacles, rust, wild flowers, reflections and the motion of the sea, this may be one for you! Come along and explore an exciting new fine-art approach to your photography.

Plymouth at Dusk – Royal William Yard

Saturday 29 August
Royal William Rd, Stonehouse - 6:30pm - 3 Hours

This workshop will appeal to architectural, urban, street and landscape photographers. If you enjoy the buzz of the footpath, the glow of light on old stone and the evening mood of 'place based' photography, this one is probably for you. Capturing the city at dusk presents different technical challenges to photographers. In this workshop you will learn how to balance different types of light (both 'ambient' and 'natural') and frame for impact while using manual controls. The advantages, in terms of 'atmospheric potential' of 'golden hour' and 'blue hour' photography will be outlined. In particular, the range granted by 'ISO', and adjusting your shutter speed in response to the 'scene', will be explained and encouraged. There will much to see and photograph as we move through this picturesque foreshore location. Come along and enjoy a memorable evening of photography in one of Plymouth's most iconic places.

I am Tracey, a self-taught artist from Plymouth, UK, I have been developing my coloured pencil techniques for the past year . My aim is always to capture not only the likeness of an animal but also the personality and spirit that make them so special to the people who love them.In this piece, Colin is shown resting amongst a vibrant meadow of wildflowers, his striking green eyes drawing the viewer in. The detailed fur work, delicate whiskers, and colourful floral surroundings were all carefull

A work colleague Christine missed her dog "Indie" A lot and asked if I would a drawing. Christine is aware I use Pastels and normally do portraiture but with her dog passing away last year, this felt appropiate. I only used Pastel pencils with this drawing and Pastel mat Paper, light blue. I enjoyed this drawing because I new the person.

Title or Location: A version of Irene
A version of Irene? - giving her back some youthfulness yet shows the shadow of dementia at her back and highlights her red , red fiery opposition and fight against everything . The light she always seems to look toward is there . It?s the face of the Irene I knew and still retains her ?look?. My first attempt at a portrait , not perfect but I like it and it?s been a great learning curve . Acrylic on canvas 3ft square approx .

I was asked to do a commission with specific colours to match a room and idea of boats on water so I did my own interpretation to bring some tranquility and peace, size is 60cm x 60cm with acrylics on canvas and all from my own inspiration, I love to bring a piece of my heart to every piece I do and the sail boat reflected that peace and calm, I am a self taught artist and it brings so much joy to share my work thank you for looking &10084&65039

This is only my 4th painting . Its mixed media , mainly acrylic and on canvas - it?s 3?4 inch by 2?8 inch . I was unable to sea swim due to a period of illness at the end of last year and , as I missed the sea so much I decided to paint it. I have regularly swam alongside shoals of fish , cormorants , shags and the occasional passing seal at Mount Batten beach rock , Plymouth . The rock itself is a true limestone jewel , full of interesting shapes and sea life . I absolutely love t

I loved this photograph from John Strachan photography and finally got around to painting it in acrylic. I tried to be quite loose with the painting as there was so much detail. in the end I thought the sky looked a bit bare so with the help of Chat GPT I added seagulls to the photo and was then able to paint them into my art work. This painting will be heading for the Aberdeen art show the end of August for sale.
